I don’t usually do visual novels, but thanks to The Babysitter, that’s going to change. In fact, The Babysitter is so much more than that. The atmosphere drew me right in, and the story is classic slow-burn suspense that builds to a peak. Jump scares are well-placed and scarce, making them effective rather than cheap, and the audio is appropriately foreboding. From the game’s outset, you know something is wrong, but you’re not sure what it is. There is an eeriness to everything and everyone, and throughout the game, I found myself questioning the motives of every character. If you want something genuinely scary to sink your teeth into, The Babysitter does the trick nicely.
