On my second playthrough I decided to start with the ray gun and plasma grenade. And I'm so glad I did! It was complete tone shift. I found myself feeling totally overpowered from the very beginning. And it just got easier and more hectic after. I also enjoyed the take on the genre with tiers/rarity on upgrades and having a locked map.
