I'm really sorry to hear that, but updates should not reset your progress as they are backwards compatible. Progress is only reset in a few specific cases:

You played on a different device or browser.

You played on a different platform, for example switching from the itch.io web page to the itch.io app or downloading Serenitrove to play offline.

You cleared your browser history or cache.
For cases 1 and 2, your progress should still be there. You just need to return to the same device, browser, and platform you originally played on. If it is case 3, I'm sorry but the save is unfortunately gone, since all progress is stored locally on your device. Hopefully you made a recent backup of your save.
