Windows Defender...
Check the game with other antivirus program.

Actually it was not flagged by Windows Defender but by Avira. Here is the type of what it found. I hope that this info can tell you what caused it and how.

That's very strange. The game has been downloaded over 800,000 times, but you're the first person to find the virus with another antivirus program.

Thanks for the report!

Are you downloading the game from the official game page?

I downloaded it here from itch, using the download button on top of this comments section (as mentioned, I got the version labled as 0.9.0). If there is another 'official page' then I would not know about it.

Now... this game looks very interesting, and I want to check it out (obviously), but I would hate to infect my system, if that didn't already happen.

The problem is with your system. I'll say it again, the game has been downloaded thousands of times, I have thousands of followers, and this account has been around for three years.

But you're the only one complaining about rebooting and installing third-party apps.

Update:

I spent a lot of time yesterday using multiple other virus scanners and system checks, including Avira, Spybot and the below mentioned virustotal website and no malware was found anymore.

And this does also include Avira itself, which I did even use on another device with a freshly unzipped folder...

So I totally blame Avira on this false positive here... I am sorry for the confusion.

If it was not completely on Avira's side, then my only explaination would be, that there was some sort of hiccup at the moment after Unreal Engine finished installing (a program which I did not had installed before) and probably the game tried to launch afterwards. But everything bayond that was Avira being too sensitive.

Edit: The game is running normally on my end now.
