i think this track does some very cool things with its drum chops! i don't know if ULTRAKILL's soundtrack was a direct inspiration, but it definitely feels reminiscent of that style. only having piano to accompany drums, though, means that the piano has to do a lot of work that i think other instruments could do better- a lot of chords are placed at quite low pitches, making them harder to pick out and muddying the harmony.
nevertheless, this is a brave composition for a first jam submission. if you're looking to improve, i'd recommend simply listening to the tracks that inspire you and studying them! figuring out what makes another composer's music work is an essential step in figuring out how to make your music work.
