Jammety jam, there's jam everywhere!
What is this log about?
I am currently joining a few jams on itch.io. I've already written about my plans and progress in Sunday Zine Club #19 (more info in https://itch.io/jam/sunday-zine-club-19) jam. I continue on that chosen path on this log. I'll also tell you about another itch.io jam. Themed horror game jam #23 (more info: https://itch.io/jam/themed-horror-game-jam-23) started yesterday evening.
Themed horror game jam #23
Themed horror game jam #23 started yesterday evening. The jam has three different themes to pick from. Plus three different bonus themes on every main theme. Yesterday I showed the jam page for My Loved One, and they liked it. We talked about the jam, about certain ideas in it, had a silly brainstorming for fun and giggles, and then we joked about the stuff we made up. Then I made my mind about the themes I'll use.
I unceremoniously decided to make my horror jam game using the first theme: Endless Ocean. Oh, what a shocking revelation?!? *self-irony inserted heavily* After all, to many, I am the person who has run these weird little "My Island" jams. To be exact, I've run two This Island Comes with Me JAMs. So, oh, wow, I chose the Endless Ocean theme. Who would ever guessed that? And it is even less surprising that I am going to use all three bonus themes given for that theme. And yes, one of the bonus themes is "Islands Out Of Time". But at least I am consistent on certain themes that I most certainly love.
So, it is now decided that my horror game entry will be on an endless ocean, and it has islands out of time. So it will be something absurd, surreal, oddballish, and I am thinking to lean more on intriguing suspense than on sheer horror. I already have some ideas, some text sketches, and some art to go with it all.
My progress in SZC #19 Jam
Yesterday I got a text from my game-making friend Jonas. They also gave a link to a board game that fits perfectly in the theme of my fanzine. I also got some material from Raymond: a picture, a link to a game in the zine's theme, and short texts. I edited both materials in my raw material file. I also checked out some games, usable engines, and assets. I downloaded some usable art for the magazine. I played some games and used some computer programs and web-based material. Also managed to write something about those games and programs.
Today I wrote and edited some more material. I checked the material with Jonas and Raymond. Raymond made some changes to their material. I added Raymond's yogurt picture to their text about chai-flavoured yogurt. Now I have almost 4 pages of raw text, including the picture scaled small. Tomorrow I will write something more. I like that things are going forward. I am very happy that people have an interest in my fanzine. I am even happier that people want to be part of the fanzine.
