More than three months later, the bug is still there.
It seems the caching wasn't the issue, so... What is the official Itch response regarding this problem?

we have yet to get a official response on what the problem is or if they're trying to fix it :((
this issue is really a major hinderance to all Devs and asset creators on the platform and it seems like it's being brushed to the side completely, we need Gifs to function properly for uploading high quality pages for our games and assets :(((
