I’m really liking this system, thanks for sharing! Might try it when my players encounter the Legion warbands :)

I see that in the examples you move units from 4 to 5 and 3 to 2, is this normal? You mention that movement is from Rear to Center and from Center to Front, or in reverse, so shouldn’t 4 first need to go to front if they want to get to 5?

EDIT: After thinking about it, it doesn’t make sense since then you cannot surround or get to the rear while front is fighting, so is it about the wording maybe?

Hi! Glad to hear that you like it. Yeah, that's a mistake in wording. Every zone except Front and Rear are connected (you can only fire missiles from Front to Rear or in the reverse direction). I will amend this.

Another question, if a non-exhausted unit counterattacks, are they exhausted afterwards, or can they still take a battle action if they come up in the initiative order during the same round?

That's a good question. I think this system needs revision. The idea of the counter-attack was the attrition you experience from having two units scuffle. Generally speaking I would say it would have to use up the action, and it should be the attacked party's choice whether they use the counter-attack. I can see this leading to some weird situations either way, however. If a unit is attacked by 2 separate enemy units in a round, would they really inflict no casualties on the second if they use their counter-attack on the first? Unlikely.

EDIT: Reading this again, the way I wrote is so that you can only counter if the unit is destroyed by the incoming attack. This means the counter is the final action of this unit before it is removed from the board, so it does not matter whether this exhausts the unit or not.
