Well done on submitting a game! I eventually figured out how to double jump and get to the alien area. It seems the weapon fires when you release the mouse button, rather than when you click it? And maybe there is some kind of cooldown so you can't shoot sometimes? Either way I did try to go up to the aliens and shoot but wasn't sure if it was doing anything. Maybe they just require a lot of hits.
