Guys I know I'm kinda new to this game but I might have a theory of what might happen in the future of this game. Now I might sound crazy but my theory is that there might be an ending where we die or smth in the future of this game, idk but I haven't unlocked all endings yet so idk but hear me out.
So it all links to the story the Jester was talking about when we go to his tent: Forbidden Love. In the story there are five characters (basically the circus) and if we look closely at the designs, they each have a marking or color that represents them. The story is basically about a character with a teardrop mark on its cheek which is the main character (Pierrot) falling in love with a girl called Columbina (us). And in the story, there is another love interest character with green markings called The Poison (Harlequin).
You might ask how are you sure this is the circus members and not just random people? I have MANY clues. First as I already said, the markings on their faces represent them. Secondly the doctor has his iconic plague mask. Then the main character which is Pierrot, we mostly interact with Pierrot more than any other circus member. And lastly well- there's five characters in the story so yeah. So how does the poison represent Harlequin? Because well if you say the word poison, the first thing that comes to mind is a green substance that kills you. And what else is green? HARLEQUIN! Plus when we all first met Harlequin, he was kinda freaky and stuff which scares us like poison.
Okay so what does this story have to do with our future? LISTEN UP GUYS! At the end of the story, the green masked character gets fed up that Columbina doesn't like him back and rejects all his affections or whatever. So the green masked guy kills Columbina out of frustration and rips her chest open. Now I just did some research and this move is something known as the Harlequin's kiss or the kiss of doom only performed by Harlequins. It's kinda giving ''If I can't have you then no one can!". Ahem anyways- I'm not sure if he ever said a line (probably not, im delulu) that goes smth like "Your heart is mine!", but maybe if he said this he didn't mean as in love, he meant it as in the organ that he might tear apart if he doesn't have us.
We all know that this story was from the past and Harlequin gets rejected from Columbina. Since the freak circus are monsters well- not human, and their ages aren't officially confirmed so they might be really old. So the reason why Harlequin is really dedicated to win us over is because he has past trauma and doesn't want history to repeat itself. Since Harlequin killed Pierrot's first love, Pierrot doesn't trust him with us because what if he kills us? This also proves why they both hated each other before they even met us. So this sentence "Since Harlequin killed Pierrot's first love, Pierrot doesn't trust him with us because what if he kills us?" is the answer to my explanation.
So in the future of this game, if we choose to spend too much time with Pierrot and maybe at the end we must choose between Pierrot and Harlequin. If we choose Pierrot, there might be an ending where Harlequin will kill us because we don't love him back. I'm sorry if this is confusing for yall idk how to explain it but yeah. This theory might be true or I'm just delulu and overthinking about this game. Bye bye <3
