I'm probably missing something, but I can't activate the new content in the update. The in-game notification is not showing for me.

You'll need to complete the game in it's entirety first. You'll know you've done this when the credits start rolling.
Afterwards, entering the hallway during Morning/Day/Evening should trigger the doorbell. If you're on a transferred save that already saw the credits, just head over to the hallway (Morning/Day/Evening) and it should work.
