Hello, I got the game back in September. Seeing as how there is now an update, I am wondering how I go about updating it without getting rid of my current save?

Saves carry over automatically, all you have to do is load up the new version and your saves should sync over.
You can make a manual backup if you'd like by going to where AHITR is > Game > Saves. (And then placing them in the new location).
