I've played the new version, and I have something to say. First of all, considering that this is still an art gallery, it is not entirely clear why there is a time limit. If there are people who like to look at the shadow of a red ball, then perhaps it would be more logical to give them as much time as they need? I'm not a big fan of Cubism, so I looked at everything on the map in 5 minutes. Just by setting a time limit, I start to think that either I have to do something quickly, or I have to learn something quickly and expand my knowledge for the next cycle, as in Outer Wilds. Maybe I just didn't find something important. In addition, after the time and slideshow expire, at the very end, when a large black circle with creepy sounds appears, nothing more can be done, the game freezes and there is no way to even exit the menu. Generally, looking for logic in art is not the best idea, but I have this opinion.
Appreciate the feedback and your thoughtful response.
For some context I would say it is more of a virtual installation/showcase/experimental work than something strictly like a game. The project is an initial prototype. Didn't really expect anyone to experience it yet.
It is an expansive showcase and is left open for collaboration -- If you have any additions(.fbx) that you would like showcase then I would encourage you to share.
The timer mirrors real life where we are all born with a finite lifespan -- a timer where at the end we die. What we do with that knowledge is up to us. Some people stare it in the face and confront it. Others shy away and pretend that mortality and finitude doesn't effect us at all. The experience is meant to simulate that reality.
The message of the piece that Art, aesthetics and beauty is one of the noble things that we ought to engage with with our limited lifespan.
All that being said -- the implementation and execution in this format/medium is still in development. Which is why your feedback is useful and appreciated. I would like to make this more clear and feel more intentional. But again -- the existential condition we find ourselves in is this; we are thrown(birthed) into a life we did not choose and we are left with the dizzying confusion of what to do with it -- same as the game -- you just experience -- what you experience is the only decision you make.
Your comments are thoughtful and they are valuable notes. I am on my development journey! Thank you for joining me!
I understand your idea and I have something to add to it.
Based on the fact that you are trying to show the limitations of life, the following ideas could also be implemented:
1. A person has only one life. After the timer expires, the game somehow deletes itself or makes it impossible to replay (breaks the game files).
2. It is impossible for a person to experience everything in one lifetime. It is necessary to add so many exhibits and content that the player cannot physically watch it all before the timer expires.
3. It would not hurt to add interactive elements to your art, which would reflect the idea that a person is able not only to contemplate, but also to influence the world around them.
4. It may be superfluous, but it would be interesting to see any random events, because our lives are just as random and unpredictable.
I don't know how well these ideas fit your philosophy, that Art, aesthetics and beauty is one of the noble things that we should engage with with our limited lifespan, but adding things above will make the gaming experience more valuable, because each person explores their part of the map, they will come across their own random events and eventually they will He will live his own unique life.
Great comments again!
1. love this idea. one life then the files delete or something.
2. Great Idea. I am currently working towards this. I am in the process of developing way more art and monuments on multiple levels. It will be a forever scape of Art soon!
3. Any ideas for interactivity that fits the tone and mission of this experience? I have experimented with something , although it is difficult to strike a balance between tastefulness and interactivity(gamification)
4. Also Great Idea. I have implemented some of these. Stay tuned in for the update soon ( in the next week or so).
Again , I appreciate your engagement and Thank you so much for downloading and playing. Your experience and feedback is extremely valuable to me. Thank you for collaborating.
