Aha, prefs are in Appdata/local. I modified the server settings file to 127.0.0.1:8899 and it works. I use a UGREEN DXP4800Plus ans I'm able to log in using pansnas.local:8899 instead of 127.0.0.1:8899 to the nas. It seems AJ AUdio doesn't translate blah.local:port to 127.0.0.1:port.
