I think multiple things are clear at this point:

  • Many people want to see Evermore continue in its original format
  • Even many of those who support the dev’s choice to follow his own heart have little interest in actually reading the book
  • When the books eventually start coming out, there will be very little goodwill from the existing audience, so  he’ll need to build a  new one from scratch.

I can see this last point being very problematic. A quick search on Amazon shows that “Evermore” is not an original title. And many of them are already fantasy and/or romance.

Starting over as a regular novel series just feels like setting up for failure.

Especially in current times with stuff like AI books becoming more and more of a thing, like sure its sad to see a project thats written so well so far not being continued in its intended way, but i feel like its even sadder in its own way to see someone who can write stuff so well most likely not getting the success he/she deserves with the current route he/she is going.

And by all means let the prometheus do what makes him/her happy, but i do fear the same way of failure with the route

It is a shame. Prometheus clearly had the talent, it’s just a shame that it will get overshadowed by the sheer loss of goodwill such a direction shift has brought.

There are plenty of of posts (and upvotes) here showing that people would rather it continued as it was.

For actual support, there are a grand total of 7 comments on the Patreon post. That’s it.
Granted, comments are subscriber-only. So maybe there are a lot of non-paying supporters who are Ok with things. But if that were the case, surely that support would show up here?

The story’s audience is VN players and I highly suspect this is unlikely to change much any time soon.

The title will be different, Evermore was fine for a game name but not so much for the books. Anyways I agree with you on all this, I'm not expecting my numbers and the entire community to transfer over.

Basically,I didn't want to abandon the core story because I love the direction it was starting to head in and I have a massive amount of the history and future fleshed out. I was gonna write these books whether I made the announcement or not. I just figured I'd make the announcement so that anyone who did want to see it as a book, could and I could keep them up to date whenever I do finish it. If that applies to only 10 people, then those will be 10 people who won't have to get lucky to stumble upon the story and to finally get the full plot. I considered completely disassociating the book from the game as one possible path I could take, but I figured there would be some who do want read it so I made the announcement.

its going to be amazing and its going to do so well, you jsut need to believe in yourself YOU GOT THIS ^^

Its your story to tell - absolutely, but in my mind you are throwing away a gorgeous AVN for a Book, that most of your AVN Audience will probably never read, most will search for a new AVN instead...Sure its your decision, and if you think you must do it do it, but in my mind its an error.

Netherless i wish you luck with your book brother, may it be what you wish it to be.

You'll probably come to find that this route will be a mistake. The book world is vast and I think your story will be lost in it. AVNs are a much smaller arena and good AVNs are supported. But it's your story, so you'll just have to live with the consequences.

It's my own fault for dling and playing the game before reading most recent update, and I know it wasn't planned, but it feels like such a bait and switch.

That's rough but understandable. When looking for games, I may take a quick look at the update history but mainly just want to paly it to see if it's for me or not.

I found Evermore in early 2024. So, at the time, was still apparently in full development. There were public updates on Patreon showing 0.6 as being in progress.
After that cliffhanger, I was actually contemplating becoming a paid member. Luckily the Indefinite pause update went up just before I decided to pull the trigger.

But it's annoying. I was enjoying experiencing the story as the character. It's a different experience that what I get when reading (or, these days, listening to) books.

Absolutely - the market of good AVNs is small - to be successful with a book in near zero - without sugarcoating it . He throws away a very good AVN for a Book which will probably never see the light of day...
So i agree 100% with your comment, could not said it better...
