Managed to give it a quick try. It works!

Desktop mode
Download the game
Add it to the library as a "non-Steam game"
In the compatibility settings set Proton 9 (it's the version I used, don't know if others work as well)
Enjoy the game

Oh! Good to know! I don't own a Steam Deck, unfortunately, but I'd really like to try : )
