How does the game account for characters gaining at significantly different rates? For example I tend to rush Mia and Lucy but largely ignore Sherry and Reb. I know there's multi-character events, so how would that work? And if I miss out, what way would the content be available in that playthrough, if at all?

It's not really possible to get everything in one playthrough, but I am working on a patch so that the memories carry over saves so completionists can actually unlock everything. If you miss an event there's no way to access it yet, but I might add a way to lose weight in future updates to make this possible.
