This is a portable game, so shouldn't have any installs necessary
Is this error coming from using the itch.io launcher?

Yes. I am using the itch.io launcher.

Unfortunately atm I havent added support for the itch.io launcher, I will try to do so for a hotfix update soon
For the moment, you'll have to download it directly from the webpage instead, sorry
