The diadem gives you immunity to the curse status. If you wear any of the other equipment without it, it will curse you. I would need to see what you have equipped to see what the problem is.
I had been wearing the diadem from the moment I got it, precisely to avoid catching the curse. But when I left the room, after taking everything, the effect remained on me. I can't use any other, better helmet because of this bug; if needed, I can take a screenshot to show you.
