The escape system is cool, however the mob get to you instantly, if there are 2 or more, then you are forced to fight them, to me, this is slightly annoying, especially when you change rooms and you get all the mobs back.
Thats intended. You may escape one or two monsters but will be surrounded if you try to escape more. Without this, people used to spam the escape button and skip all enemies, and there for, the game.
