I think the easiest way to do that would be to have successful investigations make new rolls available, but specify that those new rolls need to be taken by another PC - one PC gets a success on, say, Reconstructure and gets some clue, and also the Detective is told there’s something of interest to Exofamiliarity there and gets the chance to follow the train of thought.
