It looks like the issue here is that I forgot to actually resolve the Liberal's status in the legal system when getting acquitted but being returned to prison anyway to serve out an existing sentence. I've got a fix for this that will be included in the next build, in your current game it should stop on its own if they end up being found guilty at any point.
