A solid entry and really fun mechanic that you used. I like the balance offered by being safe, but also losing time faster while you're in the spirit world.

Some notes

  • I think the play field is a bit large. It requires a pretty huge space in order to move around in real space in order to see the whole map while you're moving around.
  • An in game tutorial would have been great, but you did offer a written tutorial on your page, which is also incredibly helpful. If you don't have time for the in-game tutorial, then listing one on the game page works! Nice job!
  • More sound! I'm sure you fit in what you could during game jam time, but I would have enjoyed sound when picking up candy, maybe some ghost sounds when they are close, something for when you shift into the spirit realm.
  • The pathing on the ghosts seemed to get locked up on buildings. You should have let the ghosts flow through the buildings. They're ghosts! They don't care about walls.

It has a complete game loop which is wildly hard to do during a game jam. Your use of mixed reality is great, and I enjoyed playing a game from a top down point of view. Again, the balance mechanics are great between time and safety, so your game design sense is spot on!

Thank you for this entry and joining the jam! Happy Halloween!

Thanks for the great and thorough feedback! Interesting that the ghosts were moving around buildings. I had a bug where my capsule enemies were going through everything so I switched to ghosts. Apparently I fixed that bug somehow!

Indeed I wanted better sound design, some post processing for mood, a resizable game board and more gameplay in the spirit world. I was pondering a procedurally generated board creation that would turn neighborhoods into a maze that would require you to solve your way around the world by shifting between the upper and lower worlds. But new job taking all my time.

I think there's something there for a baseline for mini virtual world board games. I might keep playing with the concept to get a robust baseline for mini mixed reality board game worlds.
