What a wonderful experience!

I love RPG Maker games. It is probably one of the game engines I have played the most games from, not necessarily because the engine itself is amazing, but because the games made with it resonate with me emotionally. The experiences are always so creative, and I take a lot of inspiration from many RPG Maker games myself.

Knightsong is a really good experience. It is honestly comparable, if not better, than RPG Maker games of similar length that I have played, so the fact that this is a game jam entry is incredible. The pixel art looks great. The enemies, the environments, all of it fits the game very well. At first I could not guess where the story was going, then it became very clear.

The way the game shows how the protagonist's own delusion prevents them from spending time with their likely terminally ill friend is haunting. We as humans often try to live in fantasy, yet we are always reminded of reality and should not ignore it. This is definitely one of the top stories I have seen in this jam so far.

I think that since the game sometimes moves you into enemies once you get close to them, it would probably be best to include an autosave feature. The game is short and not very difficult, but I was spamming near the end, died, and had to restart. But it's all good because you can get back to it pretty fast.
