What's the history you're referring to? It's been a pain to find specifics as to why this was cancelled. I found his post on twitter about it, but you're making it sound like I might've missed some stuff still. Is that true?
To be honest, I’ve inferred things from several sources. Parts of them are in the readme documents for some of the games here on Itch, like the detective one. The secret area in Orbo’s Odyssey that explains the struggles encountered while making that game tipped me off as well. It’s quite a pity since Feverdreamjohnny is one of my more favorite creators.
