Afraid I have more feedback, I completed the tasks and got all 3 memory fragments....yet I can't exit through the door to the north...not sure whats preventing me from doing so...

Did another test just now, not only can I not go out the door to the north, but you have to speak with the kid a total of 3 times.
Yes, speaking to the kid three times is intentional. I've turned on the memory switch so it should be good now!
