Ho, my bad, it's me that forgot to put two and two together : I don't play classic, but the original french release of TSE that I've modded to hell and back : it appears the game looks for levels resources in the main folder, not the mods ones. So I just let the level files where they were but moved all the textures, models and sounds assets in the main folder. It works now. Coincidentaly, this old release is also what launches TSE campaign by default when choosing "New game", indifferently off the custom maps I've added. Now I'm ready to enjoy what you have done this far, I dig your level design ! ^^

If that can be any help, my guess with Mental's activation is that it's an Eldritch entity that lies between the barriers of time, feeding of war Ares-style, and that the Sirian inadvertently released when creating the Time lock. He targets civilization advanced enough to have discovered time travel(i.e. the sirian artefact activated during an excavation on Earth), but acts in a crusade-sort of way, exterminating/enslaving everything in its path towards it, wich explains why civilizations with far lower technology and intelligence are still invaded in SS2.
