I also notice that the pick up system is maybe not optimal, but at least it gives a bit more difficulty/spice to the gameplay.
On the left side of the Furnace there is table where you can place three items on, just for storage.
But the workbench and the table have the same function, you can place up to three items, but you can only pick up the last one.
