I like this route (not my fave, but this is still amazing). That being said, man does Ben seem to have a bullet in his brain or something. During this update, especially compared to him on the other routes, he is at his worst here; he's so ignorant through out this route, (like seriously, mister "I don't have to deal with student loans because daddy is an rich emotional neglector" doesn't know that dark chocolate sucks ass (I have bitterness, it feels like eating the frustration of an mad retiree that spend their entire life wearing masks and cringing at any display of zest and now he is bitter that he didn't get to do that sooner and takes it our on others)???? In both Carlos' and Bryan's routes Ben is mature and while messy, he handles it all so well, with clear proof of him being very not-ignorant despite it all. It feels so jarring to see him so wise and great with Bryan and Carlos, yet so tone death with Nate. Seriously, the signs were there that he's clearly not comfortable or that something is off and the same Ben who was able to see through this kind of stuff with Carlos, doesn't see it with Nate? I don't know if this means as seeing a new side of Ben or the writers not knowing what to do with Nate because they wrote him as this perfect enough character that is tough to give him flaws, so instead of giving him a flaw, were gonna cuck Ben to move the story. Like, Ben seems so oblivious to the fact that Nate is forcing himself to spend time with Ben and seems like he only likes Ben romantically, not sexually, yet the same Ben is able on Bryan's route to pick up that Bryan likes him romantically, not just sexually, and is able to confront him about it (not in the best way, but still, he picked that up, while in Nate's route, he just doesn't despite it being very obvious).
So yes, I am frustrated with how they're developing Ben during Nate's route, but if we pretend that the other 2 routes didn't happen, I like this dynamic. There is something so weirdly comforting about the realism of his relationship with Nate. And never in a million years I would've seen myself so much in Nate. Nate is giving, confused, fresh from toxic environment, guy who doesn't fully know what he wants or how does he like Ben. Like it's obvious he like him Romantically, and he enjoys his time with Ben, but I really pick up this "I'm the glue that sticks this relationship" energy that I am way too familiar with. Nate is very emotionally intelligent, being able to spot toxic patterns and address them pronto, he knows how to stick up for himself and still be a sweat heart about it (which I heavily relate to, especially during that scene where Ben didn't know what to buy him because Nate is so hard to buy gifts; because my tastes are a bit all over fixed interests and I am very picky and self-sufficient, making me tough to buy gifts to, which seems to also be true in Nate's case). But while Nate is plenty of light years ahead, he still hasn't figured it all out and has some weak spots. From what I've seen about him, he wants to all lovey-dovey, but he is also overwhelmed by it, making him stuck in this confusing and frightening limbo that I relate so much. He want to be all over Ben, but he just isn't comfortable with it (probably due to said overwhelment), so he is just stuck in this confusing emotional place that could easily break a person. He should be more honest with Ben since it's clearly overwhelming and hurting him, yet he is also very relatable for this, and what Ben experiences with Nate is an experience that I also relate a lot with. Man, I just relate so much with this dynamic, but it is also such a confusing and overwhelming pain to navigate.
TL;DR: I love Ben and Nate's relationship dynamic in a vacuum, it's very relatable, but compared to the characterisation of Ben when he is with Bryan or Carlos, he's just more blind during Nates route than the others.
