Binding jump to ctrl, rather than say UP/W, means that if I try to add direction after jumping, my computer switches desktops. It's possibly related to that, but I don't seem to be able to jump up and then move left or right, which makes a number of vertical jumps through a one-character-sprite-wide gap impossible after you've got the speed upgrade.
