General info:
Coins seem to appear only after you've picked up the current active coin in the chain (i.e. one coin spawned in a previously visited room). When time expired the next coin was shown as being to the left of the starting point.
You start in a yellow place, going left you will encounter two holes, both lead to a purple cave.
Going right at the beginning of the game will lead you to a building of some kind (different yellow), if the gate is locked you'll need to go into the purple cave to hit a button and backtrack out.
