Can you summarize the difference between 1e and 2e? I’ve purchased 1e, how much do I gain if I get 2e?

Great question!

  • All-New Combat: Gone is the standard RPG combat (you-roll-I-roll); instead, we are introducing an exciting Ability-based combat system that emulates card play and hand management. This is all done without the need for cards, though, using a clever Ability Loadout system that serves as your deck! Pick your 12 Abilities (from the ones you’ve unlocked, with hundreds of options), add them to your Loadout, and you’re ready to go!
  • No Heart Limitations: You are no longer limited to four Hearts, and can now learn any number of Heart Abilities (as long as you loot them!). This allows for an almost infinite number of possible character builds.
  • Clear Exploration Procedures: The exploration rules are now hex-based, and have been expanded greatly, with every region having several tables of encounters and findings!
  • Streamlined Crafting: Gone are the dozens of different crafting components, forcing you to grind for hundreds of hours to craft a single item. Everything has been streamlined, without reducing the amount of possibilities.
  • No More Ranks (or XP!): All leveling is now skill and loot-based. There are no more differences in ranks, and enemies scale to your party’s power, making sure you always find something interesting to fight!
  • Exhaustive GMless tools: The GM emulation rules have been expanded and cleared up, making sure you don’t need anything outside of this book!
  • And more! All-new art (commissioned exclusively for Riftbreakers 2e), new print format (7x10", up from the 5.5x8.5” of the first edition), new layout, new enemies, streamlined achievements, reworked Companions, new items, and so much more!

It's honestly a completely new game, expanded in all senses, but also streamlined. You can find a few videos of people playing it already if you check YouTube!

This sounds really exciting. I’m a huge fan of skill-based progression and hex crawls. I’ll see if I can find a few real plays on youtube later today!
