This is not what will happen, if you switch from lossless webp to lossy webp. Try tinkering with the webp settings. You will be amazed by how low in compression you can go till you notice differences in quality. A factor of 10 is a rule of thumb.
Think about what it means to compress rendered images. Are the individual pixels important? No, they are not. Lossless compression is not suitable for the task. Use lossless for master files. Use lossy for distribution.
as far as i know most people still are using 720p
The cheapest tablets and phones have higher resolutions and desktop displays are at a higher resolution for a very long time. I do not know which people you are talking about, but your 720 images will be upscaled on the user's display anyway. So any pixel preservation by using lossless is pointless.
