Also, there is no way to go back to the main menu from the game, so the only way to start that aforementioned new game is to quit the game. Well done.

Thats an unnecessarily hostile reply, considering this is something that has been changed very recently...
I noticed the same thing, only to realise I was on 1.0.7. The button in your screenshot there IS an Exit button, that just straight up quits the game altogether here.
