No doubt the highlight of the game is the art! Not that the other aspects are bad, of course — but the art really stands out for its beauty, found in the simplest of shapes, and for that charming vector style that I personally find super appealing. However, from what I noticed, the duck specifically seems to use some shapes that might bend the jam’s limitations a bit, unfortunately… Mainly the texture and the beak — while you can tell it’s based on a pentagon, it ends up being heavily overlapped by the circle.
The game is quite difficult haha — I tried several times to save all the ducks, but I felt like a terrible mom (or dad?) because the best I could do after many attempts was saving just two.
That said, I found the core mechanic very interesting and also quite unique — at least from what I’ve seen so far, I haven’t come across anything quite like it. The sound is pleasant, and the tutorial does a great job — I understood what to do right away thanks to it, even though in practice, the enemy felt way more chaotic haha.
Maybe adding a few extra mechanics could help enhance the gameplay and engagement. For example: buttons that deactivate specific pentagons and open up temporary shortcuts for the player to reach their goal faster. Another idea I had was to add a new kind of “safe zone” — a checkpoint where ducks could be dropped off, so that if the player loses, they wouldn’t have to restart their progress from scratch.
As mentioned, I wasn’t able to finish the game due to its difficulty — but that didn’t stop me from having fun. You did a great job with the theme, and you should absolutely be proud of it! Congrats on your game, and I wish you the best of luck in the jam and beyond!
