i did a test. the mids only show mid side's mids rather than sum. even though mids are suppose to be summed lmao (at least according to many plugin's definition). Boosting the side channels up by 24 DB has no change in the metering, where other summed VU change accordingly. on left or right mode, it does reflect the change. a proper summed mode would be great!

I see what you mean. I'll test against other VU meters and see what they do.

any changes to this?

I looked into how some other meters define "Mid" and they seem to be consistent with my definition. It sounds like you want the max of left and right channels. I will look into adding that in the future.

I am guessing you are subtracting the side from the sum. i just wanted a right and left sum. not exactly the max, but the avg.

I think you’re misunderstanding how the math works. To compute the Mid signal it’s (left+right)/2 and the Side is (left-right)/2. Because of this, all sound that is out of phase disappears when computing the Mid, and conversely, all in-phase sound is removed when computing the side.

I believe an LRmax would probably do what you expect! And I got that implemented today, I’m going to test and make sure it’s useful before shipping it.

Yes, but the 'sides ' don't exist until you subtract left and right.

So when computing mids. It's contains all of them. So boosting the 'sides ' should still reflect on the meter. It doesn't here. (I think, away from PC atm)

i tested stuff, you are probably right. my mistake. i am getting conflicting info. i am going crazy lmao. thank you
