That is true indeed, I haven't focused much on rhythm theory as of right now (almost all of the instruments I'm familiar with are string instruments) since I mostly use drum grooves that I rearrange for the needs of a track (the drum sections tend to sound like a glorified metronome this way, which could be pushed further to be more intentional like you said for a fuller package).
Actually I have an electronic drum kit gathering dust in a corner of my living room, maybe I should put it to some use to have a better grasp of rhythm in general.
