I had the same problem. I tried using the playdate sim, but couldn't get it to work as it require installation, then register, then subscription... I eventually gave up T_T
You don’t need to register the simulator nor subscribe to anything. It’s an optional feature for developers to try downloading games from the web user account. It works fine without registering.
