Believe it or not that's EXACTLY what I was planning with the scythes!! A friend of mine had come up with the final scythe design and proposed that it send ranged swipes forwards as you swing it. That's such a cool idea and I'd love to implement it.
This has solidified it for me haha - in the follow-up update after the jam I'll implement exactly that.
