Hi thenokken,
Initially we started as a record label releasing synthwave albums and compilations that each told a story; imagine if Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" became a story with other albums by other artists connected to it's narrative. Each release built a piece of the universe further. "Scythe Dev Team" games (mostly) take place within the "Scythe Saga Universe" as established from 2013 on with "Scythe Saga Records." The concepts were initially incubated way back in 2003 - 2007, and started as a rock opera. (Hey, look at that! Yesterday was the 7 year anniversary of our debut album release, "Apocalyptic Dawn." That was the public debut of all of this.)
Hope this clears up any confusion! This is honestly the first I'm hearing of the book series. I'll have to check it out! The name Scythe was chosen because of how it sounded similar to "Synth" (synthwave) and also it's association with the Grim Reaper. Also, the "Farming" of ideas from an artistic collective. (This is Jon here, by the way. I was the one who started all the world building in the Scythe Saga Universe back in 2003 - 2007 with my "A Gathering of Darkness" rock opera. It only truly took off in 2012 with my debut album "Apocalyptic Dawn" and then really ramped up when Kaleb joined the team.)
Cheers,
Scythe Dev Team
