Interesting little concept you got here...

After several attempts I was able to have the character reach the end... sort of bummed that was all there was to the game, but at least I "finished" it.

I think if you wanted to flesh this out a bit more, you could have the player choose a party of 4 randomly generated characters each run and have differing fates for each. Could also have some differing options at intersections here and there, just to have at least a bit more controllability rather than just choosing 1 thing at the beginning.
Other than that I'm sure you're fine with the way things are, but having possible points in either lane have some sort of random healing fountain, or weapon/armor pick-ups that increase damage/defense on the way could make it a bit more engaging.

Again, pretty novel idea... would like to if you decide to flesh it out later on, but fine if it was a one-and-done type of thing.

Thanks for the feedback.
I actually had a whole other level planned with multiple routes and themes, but couldn't implement it in time for the game jam deadline.
Some time soon, I'll add that level and the items that can be picked up by the player, such as weapons,  potions, etc.

There will also be inventory items that the player can consume to switch up their stats mid-journey. This way, they can take a more active role in their hero's journey.
