Most laptops have little doors on the bottom, usually closed with a screw, that you can open and change out the RAM. If there aren't any doors on the bottom then you'll have to remove the bottom casing. The minimum is probably what is in it. You should be able to double if not triple what you have for fairly cheap. Older RAM might be harder to find, but it's not in demand so you could probably go up to 8gb for less then $60. Paying for a small upgrade is a lot easier than paying for an entirely new computer.
