They Live Here Now came to me at a time when barely anyone was talking about being non-binary, and getting anyone to use my pronouns at all was painful experience. It made the idea of an isolated space where I didn't have to deal with people not accepting me for who I was feel necessary. I can't say the world has gotten much better since then, but at least we've a lot more non-binary folks out there to share our struggles with
