Hello! Sorry but that is a bug I'm afraid.
I patched it out in the latest playtest and Chapter 2, so if you want the fixed version with more content as well, I recomend waiting just a little bit longer for a better experience!
And to answer your question, you're supposed to put it in the altar in the center
