I love your critter! I just played our game real quick and I'm not getting the same bug you are. Are you playing on windows or another platform?
On second thought, it's possible you're placing creatures on areas you haven't unlocked yet. That's totally on us. We ran out of time to fix it so that you couldn't do that. 😞
