There are two growth events in the demo. One minor, one major at the end. Both are triggered by clicking the "Grow" button on the stat increase page.
You mean the grow button that requires more points than the Demo allows you to get?
I can get up to 5-6, before I am forcibly sent to bed and the demo force ends.

I just replayed the demo and it doesn't force end. I played through to the end. The 'buy it on Steam' message you get when you sleep isn't an end, you can just click through it.
