having a similar issue. It looks like the owned property doesn't extend to the road. Came here to make a comment about it. I can't extend fields or anything. Self hosted multiplayer FWIW.
You have to buy the extra land plots. There are 4 on the map, just go to the Farmland info view on the map and select a road. You can then buy a corner of map including all roads. They are very expensive though so I'd use dev tools to pay for it.
