I've recently finished playing up to the end of 7.05, and I want to give my feedback.
I was looking for something new to play, and I'm very glad I decided to give this one a chance. While it is, in the end, a simple sandbox VN with a linear progression, the story, characters, artwork, and humor are all just superb. Easily among the best I have experienced.
My only real complaint comes with the most recent content. I've seen a lot of VNs with a similar pattern—they start out giving you short, simple quests and events, but over time the main story episodes become longer and longer and longer, until you're no longer "playing", but just clicking through hours of cut-scene content. It gets incredibly tedious.
And that's what I see with the Gomira storyline. It was mostly just two incredibly long cut-scenes, with very little in the way of player interaction. I understand why it was done this way, as they occur outside of the main map area, but I still feel they could have been developed better. I would have preferred for it to be broken up into more shorter episodes, with some easy way to travel/teleport between the main and remote location, and/or making the remote location into a playable map of its own, with its own interactive places, characters, and adventures. In any case, to have some way, any way, to avoid hour-long non-interactive scenes.
Still, that's really just a minor complaint at the moment. It doesn't keep WaL from being one of my absolute favorites. I really look forward to seeing more.
