Okay, so I really like what you went for, but I think I'm doing something wrong because I can't seem to find how to progress the story at all: [SPOILERS]

  • Each tape aside from the victim have 3 dialog options, but the infos in all of them is not enough to sigle out one culprit.
    • The killer must belong to the company in order to tamper with the machine, so it's not the bank teller and probably not the janitor, but that's the only clue I have
  • I think I get that the victim found out about the shady payments to LoopCorp and went into rehab twice to try to get proof, but was killed the second time by an employee in order to silence him
  • What I couldn't find out:
    • Why the connection between the victim and the bank teller is important
    • How the machine was tempered with
    • What the date on the lottery ticket meant
    • How to confront the log keeper about his daughter's birthday
    • The ending message about successfully completing the rehabilitation (it seems to imply we are inside the machine reliving the events of the case, but why would the detective be put through that? Because the shady corporations stopped him from solving the case irl and got him arrested unter false pretenses to keep the truth confined?)

Either the game didn't work properly for me and I missed a very important part of the experience, or I'm just not smart enough to get it and need some help understanding the story please, because I'm really invested in it. ^^'

Apart from that, the graphics and audio work really well! I was looking forward for detective-type looping mystery games, so I really want to know if I got it right or if I need to try again with the pieces I might be missing ^^

Good work! =)

Wow! I'm honestly amazed by your commitment. Really impressive!
Thank you SO MUCH for spending so much time, diving into my little story :P

I really didn’t expect anyone to care this much if I'm totally  honest. It truly means the world to me. <3

[SPOILERS]

  • You are right! Marcus discovered shady data payments involving LoopCore and went into rehab to dig deeper, but he was silenced during his second session.
  • The lottery ticket is one of the most important clues.
The date on it (13/11/2030) is also the same as Bob’s daughter’s birthday. Which is mentioned casually in passing. (Both Ray and Bob reference that date). It also happens to be the same day Marcus died five years later, which is listed in the case summary.
  • There’s a subtle hint in the dialogue when you're asked, “Do these numbers mean something to you? Maybe a date for someone special?” That’s meant to nudge the player toward making the connection. Ray denies having family, so that helps us eliminate him. If the ticket was found near the machine on the day Marcus died, and the date connects directly to Bob, it suggests Bob was present despite denying it. (Ray and Elias both say Bob was there too)
  • LoopCore had been selling patient data to shady businesses. Bob was the only person with full access to that sensitive information. So he had both the motive (to protect the scheme) and the means (data control and access to the system). The company clearly had something to hide. Marcus was getting too close. (Since we are in the loop as well, we know that you can gain more information inside of it, which is what Marcus is doing)
  • The bank-teller Clara and her connection to Marcus is mostly a red herring at first (but she’s still important). Marcus says that he robbed the bank and for personal reasons (payback for what Clara has done to him, Maybe a breakup or maybe she stole money for him? Cheated on him? The story doesn't tell you what happened, but apparently it's enough to make Marcus Rob a bank...)
  • She also helps us build Marcus’s motivation (as a whistleblower) and her "call log" being deleted hints that someone was trying to erase her connection to him. This raises the question: what is the company hiding and who would want to erase evidence? The only logical answer is Bob
  • As for the ending. You are totally right to be confused. The message about completing rehab suggests that you're inside the machine, reliving the case as part of your own rehabilitation. Maybe the real-world case never got solved. Maybe you were framed? or you're trying to clear your own name who knows? It's left intentionally open-ended for interpretation. That's also the reason why you are able to influence on the tapes, even tho they are pre-recorded. Making new changes and repeating the loop, until you escape. :D
  • It's just some breathing room for the player to make some theories, maybe you are BOB!? >:D

And for your info. I actually had two more articles planned, but unfortunately I didn't have enough time :/

You have a really great eye! Even catching that I didn't have enough time to tell the story!

Well done! I'm really amazed! :D

Tell me if things are still unclear, I'm not sure if I made you more confused or not :P

> I really didn’t expect anyone to care this much if I'm totally  honest

I love storytelling and mysteries, hence why I really wanted to see detective looping games this year!

Thanks a lot for the explanations, it cleared up everything! So I was on the right track with the ticket date, since I noticed it was the same as the murder, but since the year was off I brushed it off as a coincidence here to mess up with actual evidence, I didn't think to the fact that Bob would play his daughter's birthday as lucky numbers, so the ticket was his! I only knew it had to be the killer's since it wasn't in the room yet when the janitor cleaned up 1 hour earlier, I was so close!

Although, I have to say... Marcus, my boy, you're already knees deep in muddy waters because of the bank robbery, don't be a whistleblower for the company charged to mess with your brain on top of that! You have a death wish man! XD

As for the ending, it got me thinking about the implications, so the open-endedness worked really well, I was really engaged!

> maybe you are BOB!? >:D

NOOOO!!! D:

You were so close!

That date on the ticket is one of those things that people easily brush off. I was actually planning to include another article to make it clearer, but just ran out of time. :/

The idea was that Bob always plays his daughter’s birthday as his lucky numbers.. and that’s the exact date Marcus dies, five years later. Hence why Bob had a good explanation why he had to run out of the building.

I also really tried to make Bob feel sketchy. He gets all nervous, talks way faster when you ask about “data” and even blurts out stuff like: “That’s just the data, it has nothing to do with the murderer!” Like... come on, Bob. :D

I’m so happy you liked it this much!

I honestly thought that it would be a flop, cause the gameplay was "too boring" or something like that.

This is my first time doing an full-on story game with narrative. I always do gameplay and then try to make a story but always ends up not finishing. So I'm really happy people liked it, might be something I will keep doing in the future.

You really made my year. :D

I chose Bob in the end exactly because I felt he was more nervous than the others, so you chose his dialogues well ^^

> I honestly thought that it would be a flop, cause the gameplay was "too boring" or something like that.

Well, it's true that there could be a lot more to do with the "time-looping detective" concept. I did got a bit "stuck" because of the lack of game mechanics... which I was able to get around thanks to your game design choices!
The clues, the nervous tone of Bob, the transfers are game elements, not everything needs to be a game mechanic. The game you created is played more in the head than on the keyboard, but it is still interesting to play thanks to that, which is why it wasn't a flop! =)
Plus, the graphics are really nice, and that helps a lot too. ^^

Aw thank you, it's really nice to hear.

I really appreciate your eye for details!

This really motivated me to keep making games! Thank you so much! :D
