Nice little game, unfortunately suffers a bit from unpolished balance but there's a lot of cool tiny details I really appreciate. For instance, I like how all the enemies have specific AI patterns, the diagetic yelow coloring on the player, and the thumbnail is very charming and catchy. Enemies being less aggressive, would have probably helped with the learning curve, maybe restricting the chasing enemies early on could've helped as well. Issue with chasing enemies and games where you have to loop around enemies to defeat them is that your player needs to be exponentially faster than them to comfortably loop them without being hit, but this is an issue many of these kind of games have been having, even the higher rated ones.
Thank you W1K! I really appreciate your comment, with all the details! I really do like this kind of feedback, and I totally agree with it! I hope I will still work on this game after the jam and bring it to a more complete state :-) Regarding the fast enemies, there are ways to handle them... in my case they only chase you fast when they are quite close to you, so the idea is to try and keep distance. Then the two chasing enemies, like in pac-man, have different targets (one is just following you, and the other tries to predict where you are heading). During my playtesting I did find some technique to tackle both of them, even when their speeds are quite high. I do agree though, throwing this in the first few seconds of the game is not a good idea They should have these speeds much later in the game when the player is indeed comfortable with the main mechanics.
Fun little game! I like the artwork and the way the game plays. I really liked the way you could tell how many dashes you had by your body becoming more and more gold. Could have done with some sound design added, but really enjoyed playing :) Great work!
Hehe! Thank you Linzak! I had so many ideas for the sound and level design, but I didn't prioritize things right, so there is no sound design at all, and this poor unbalanced single level is what I managed to pull off in the last 20 minutes. It is what it is. I am glad I managed to submit it at all. Glad you enjoyed it though!!! your comment means a lot!
I really like your artwork, My team painter should learn from you
i am really humbled by this. Thank you for your kind comment. I did the artwork in Microsoft paint, using a fee layers and the curved bezel tool.
The gameplay is really fun and the art is pretty good. Good Job
Thank you Monkshovv!
Enjoyed the game - as you said, little hard to play - may little slow intro in some first level or so to get use to it before bringing it to this chaotic world!
Thanks for checking my game out as well!
I like how gameplay entirely on looping around yourself, to attack enemies and even get those mint power ups. The game is pretty fun once you get to know the controls.
Hey Nathan! Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! It has a quite steep learning curve and it is quite unforgiving in this state ^^'
The artwork and technical side of things are insanely impressive, and the gameplay is very fun, but way too difficult. Also cool story, and I agree with the cat, specifically against the heart enemy because it always makes it nearly impossible to make loops and is one of the worst things ever created on planet earth. (comedic hyperbole) still, very fun game
Thank you! I actually didn't prioritize things right and was terribly slow at coding. In retrospective I really wished I made the game easier. I coded the enemy spawner in the last 20 minutes. I really appreciate that you appreciate the art. It was all done in Micrsoft Paint using mostly the curve tool and a bit of layers, but put some effort into it.
controls were super tricky to get down - but the artwork and story behind the game is fun! if everything was just slightly slower or if you were slightly longer it would feel better at the beginning, just needs more of a learning curve. but super fun!!!
Thank you for playing Bovinita!
the cat is not long enough to cover the enemies sufficiently and the enemies swarm so fast. The difficult should have increased gradually.
Hey Lumik, thanks for checking it out! Yeah, I ran out of time to playtest it. I should have made the difficulty increase much slower. The game is very hard, a bit like flappy bird... you die quick, but with training, it could go for much longer.
